The comprehensive 3-day hands-on workshop prepares and trains the attendee to evaluate and treat balance and vestibular disorder from a multi-factorial perspective. Every clinician who treats patients from musculoskeletal or neurological pathology leading to unsteadiness and balance disorder can benefit from this course. If your patient has encountered a fall or near fall in the past 6 months, a comprehensive balance evaluation is recommended by NIH and WHO.

Understanding Static/Dynamic Balance, Evaluating and Treating Sensory Dysfunction.

Day 1:Friday December 27th, 2019.

Dynamic Balance Evaluation

  • Define Balance. Differentiate between Static and Dynamic Balance.
  • Posture Evaluation. (CVA, Parkinsons, Peripheral Neuropathy, Aging Adult.
  • Observational Gait Analysis
  • Dimensions of Balance from a Multi-factorial Perspective.
  • Evaluation of Somatosensory dysfunction & list common conditions.
  • Evaluation and Treatment of Peripheral Neuropathy based on EBP.
  • Lab sessions on strategy training, functional training, dynamic balance training.

 

Outcome Measures, Algorithm to establish plan of care and Lab sessions on Treatment.

Day 2: Saturday, December 28th, 2019.

Multifactorial Balance Dysfunction

  • Dizziness in General elderly, Polypharmacy & its contribution to falls.
  • Lab session on Outcome Measures to evaluate Balance Dysfunction.
  • Identify/Predict Impairments based on the results of standardized tests.
  • Establish a treatment plan based on HOAC-2 Model.
  • List treatment ideas.
  • Review emerging technologies to treat balance impairments.
  • Present with low-cost effective solutions to treat balance.Home exercise program to improve outcomes and Recovery

 

Vestibular Rehabilitation- Evaluation and Treatment.

Day 3: Sunday, December 29th,2019.

BPPV Maneuver

  • Understand Vestibular Organization in balance.
  • Review the neuroanatomy of the vestibular system and its relative contribution to balance.
  • Understand Vestibulo- ocular reflex and its relative significance in balance.
  • Demonstrate oculomotor testing using infrared googles.
  • Distinguish central and peripheral vestibular symptoms of vertigo using infrared goggles
  • Evaluation and Treatment of BPPV using infrared goggles.
